Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Brigitte Zypries is meeting with Slovenias Minister of Economic Development and Technology Zdravko Počivalšek in Berlin today to discuss bilateral economic relations.

Federal Minister Brigitte Zypries said: "Slovenia has become an attractive place for German investors. The cooperation between Germany and Slovenia is close and characterised by mutual trust. In the European internal market, it is important to jointly stand up for the interests of small and medium-sized enterprises at EU level and speak with a strong voice. These include cutting red tape, providing access to financing and maintaining proven structures - especially the self-governance by the German business community with its dual vocational training system, the requirement for companies in certain trades to be run by someone with a Master Craftsmans certificate and the system of social partnership."

Germany and Slovenia have been linked by close and friendly relations for more than 25 years. Accounting for around 20% of bilateral trade, Germany is by far Slovenias most important trading partner. In 2016, bilateral trade reached €10.3 billion. Exports to Germany from Slovenia totalled €5.6 billion ( 7.5% compared with the preceding year), and German imports from Slovenia amounted to €4.8 billion ( 4.9% compared with the preceding year). Tourism is growing too: the number of tourists visiting Slovenia has been rising for many years. Slovenia is the Convention & Culture Partner at this years ITB tourism trade fair.
